Nate Winter Personal Statement: Copy with a Point

Writing is everywhere: a grocery list here, an approval email there, six risqué text messages over lunch, and a cry for help to the blogosphere before bed. Between word processing, PDAs, web 2.0, and magnetic poetry, everybody is a writer. So how does great copy rise above the written ubiquity? It gets to the point-- the point of true, rewarding relevance to the audience.

My goal is to write poignant copy that provokes fist shaking, tear streaming, knee slapping, beard stroking, and ultimately the purely human connection that forms by engaging another person. Because great ideas expressed through great writing can accomplish anything.

NATE WINTER LIKES:

• Clients-- presenting to them, coordinating with them, entertaining them
• Team Playing-- if we all put in our two cents, we can feed the parking meter
• Web Content Management Systems-- I love editing my copy; web designers don't
• Serifs-- they make copyreading easier and incite heated debate with designers

NATE WINTER DISLIKES:

• Non-HTML apostrophes on the web (quotation marks too)
• Disorganization-- I can work within it, but I prefer to destroy it
• Taking critique personally-- I won't if you won't
• Negativity-- this list is done!
